Description | Susceptibility tests are laboratory tests where organisms are incubated with antimicrobial compounds, like antibiotics, to determine if the compounds prevent the organism from growing. These test results determine which drugs are the most effective to treat the infection. If the organism is resistant to the drug tested, that drug will not stop the growth of the organism. If the organism is susceptible to the drug tested, that drug will be effective in stopping the growth of the organism. Once the drugs are mapped to a LOINC susceptibility drug test code, the LOINC test code must be mapped to a MULTUM drug for alerting purposes. Organism coverage events will query for the organism a patient has grown, and compare the susceptibility test results to the patient's drug profile. |
