| Description | A medical treatment review that evaluates the appropriateness of a prescribed drug therapy. Drug utilization review may be required for specific high-cost drugs or non-formulary drugs to determine compliance with clinical practice guidelines. It is also used for other situations such as therapeutic duplication, drug-disease contraindications, incorrect dosage or duration of treatment, drug allergy and clinical misuse or abuse.
